Last week, President Obama commuted the sentences of 95 federal prisoners. Of those 95, 46 were serving a LIFE SENTENCE for drug offenses. Not anymore.

Not just time, but were serving LIFE for drug violations. That’s something to think about over the holiday break. Life in prison for drug offenses. Not murder, not sexual offenses involving children. Life in prison for drug offenses—possession, manufacture, conspiracy to distribute, and such. (The idea that a person can receive life in prison for a drug offense should strike you as insane, regardless of your political affiliations.)

As President Obama has previously done when issuing commutations, he wrote a letter to each inmate. In the letter, he tells the inmate that he “believes in your ability to prove the doubters wrong, and to change your life for the better.”
